Lindy Fabyanic

Lindy Fabyanic is originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania but spent time living in both San Francisco and New York working as a professional ballet dancer. After retiring, Lindy moved back to Pittsburgh where she met her husband. They jumped at the adventure to move their family to Charleston in 2015 and currently live on James Island. She opened The Dance Conservatory of Charleston in 2017 with the vision to create a studio that combines the elite technical training of a preeminent American dance academy with the heart of a community dance center. Lindy and her family love living in Charleston and spend their free time at the beach, on their boat, or exploring and trying new restaurants!

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
My husband’s name is Matt, and we have been married 13 years this September. We have three boys; Mason is 10 1/2, and our twins Parker and Hudson are 8. We have a little Boston Terrier named Juliet.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I moved away from home at 15 to train for a career as a professional ballet dancer. At 17 years old I danced professionally with the San Francisco Ballet and then went on to dance with the New York City Ballet. Since retiring and finishing my Bachelor of Arts degree, I have taught ballet for the past 16 years. I also have the honor to stage ballets from the George Balanchine Trust (ballets from the New York City Ballet.) I opened Dance Conservatory of Charleston in 2017. Hands down, what I love most about my job is my students and the people I work with. My job is to mentor and help young dancers be the best they can be and to reach their goals. I get to do this every day with a team I love and respect. It’s incredibly rewarding.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
We love Wild Olive, La Farfalle, Royal Tern, Fire Street, Basil, Obstinate Daughter, Crust, Coastal Crust and Wine & Co.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
We have lived in Charleston for 6 1/2 years!

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
Jennifer Buddin, Founder and President of Every Busy Woman, LLC. Our sons have been friends since 4K so we started out as mommy friends, but I quickly grew to admire her as an entrepreneur and working mother. She is brilliant, kind, funny, and has given me some of the best business advice! She is a gem!

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
Italy: to eat, drink, and relax! My husband and I were supposed to go last year for my 40th birthday, and it was canceled. I’m looking forward to re-planning that trip!

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
I love any movie that makes me laugh. When I was little though, I loved Anne of Green Gables on PBS!

Q: What advice would you give to people?
One of my favorite sayings is, “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you will land among the stars.” I always encourage people to choose the adventure or the path less traveled. It is not always easy but always worth it!

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
I would love to see Hawaii.

Q: What is your go to band when you cant decide what to listen to?
Jack Johnson

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
It’s hard to pick one person; there are so many dear friends I have missed seeing over the past year and a half. So, really any friend I have not seen in awhile. I would take them to Wine and Co for a delicious wine and cheese lunch!

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
My favorite thing about Charleston is the people! I have met the most wonderful people here, and I love the sense of community I feel everywhere I go.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
I love my life, my family, my business, and where I live, so I see myself here raising our babies and continuing to grow the Dance Conservatory.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I can crush a limbo contest.

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
We love Grace Bay in Turks and Caicos. The beaches there are incredible.

Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
My favorite month is June (my birthday month.) My favorite holiday is definitely Christmas with my family. Best single day is September 27, my wedding anniversary.

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
Our family vacations with my mom, dad, brother, sister, brother in law, and my sweet niece. It is something we all look forward to, and my mom gets a 10/10 for her daily themes, crazy pool floats, and games we have to participate in!

Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My boys. I know we are supposed to raise them, but I love how every day they teach me so much about life, love, enjoying the simple moments, and forgiveness.

Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?
Gardenia is my go to favorite scent.

Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Love, laughter, and my dad’s sloppy joe sandwiches
